We did it! We made Slime. To be very honest, I’ve always kind of avoided this activity, because I thought it was really messy. Well, it WAS messy, but it was so much fun!! It did involve a LOT of stirring and playing with the slime until it stopped sticking to their hands.
Here’s the recipe which is really easy and safe for kids to make!
You will need:
- 4oz Elmer’s Glue (We used clear glue)
- 1 tablespoon contact solution containing Sodium Borate and Boric Acid (We ended up using about 1 1/2 tablespoons of this to thicken it up a bit)
- 1/2 tablespoon baking soda
This is how we did it:
Mix the glue and water in a bowl.
Step 2: Add the baking soda and mix well.
Step 3: Now it’s time to add food colouring and glitter, and don’t be shy with the glitter!
Step 4: Add the Saline solution and stir, stir, stir!
Step 5: When the Slime gets to a point where it gets hard to stir, pour it onto a plate and start playing and kneading it. The girls played for quite a while before the stickiness disappeared. **Quick tip: Rub hands with some of the saline solution before touching the Slime, as this will help the slime to settle**
Step 6: ENJOY!!

Slime on clothing:
Now I’m going to save you another Google search quickly. When you make Slime, be prepared that it WILL end up on clothes. Especially while it’s still very sticky- it gets EVERYWHERE!
How to remove it from clothing? It’s really simple. You take the piece of clothing and pour generous amounts of vinegar over the Slime sticking to it. Leave it to sit for a few minutes, then run it under warm water and wash as usual. VOILA!
The girls really had a blast, and to be honest, so did I! LOL!
