My perfect MORNING ROUTINE as A Homeschooling Mom
Okay, I’ll be honest with you. I am NOT a morning person. (And I haven’t followed any a morning routine until recently.) I’m unable to communicate with anyone until I’m properly awake. LOL! Don’t get me wrong, I am very happy with my life. I have the best husband and the most amazing two girls anyone can ask for. We are all happy and healthy.
As a homeschooling mom in a new country, I need some “me-time” (and the kids also need some time away from me I would imagine.) I’ve noticed that the only time to be by myself is early morning- before the kids wake up. And boy, has this little routine been a life changer for me! I have more patience during the day, I’m not flustered with everything I need to do, and my mindset is positive and happy.
I would love to share with you what works for me, and I hope that this will help other moms out there as well

My PERFECT MORNING ROUTINE
*Rule number 1: do not check your phone or emails.
*Rule number 2: GET UP BEFORE THE KIDS
The first thing I do when I wake up is drink a glass of warm water with lemon. Dehydration may affect your organs and lead to kidney stones, (which I have unfortunately experienced once before) cholesterol problems, constipation, and liver, joint, and muscle damage. So, after hours of sleeping the best thing you can do to prevent dehydration is to drink water first thing in the morning. (This was something I had to train myself to do. I would usually run straight to the coffee pot.)
Next, I make the bed. By making your bed first thing in the morning, you feel like you have accomplished the first task of the day already. I also highly recommend you read Hal Elrod’s book: The Miracle Morning: The Not-So-Obvious Secret Guaranteed to Transform Your Life (Before 8AM), and Mel Robbin’s book: The 5 Second Rule: Transform your Life, Work, and Confidence with Everyday Courage
Then I take a swig of coconut oil for oil pulling. I use this one: Anjou Organic Coconut Oil (USDA Organic Certification, Extra Virgin, Cold-Pressed for Beauty, Skin Care, Hair Care, and Cooking) While swishing the oil, I listen to or read some personal development. After about fifteen minutes I spit out the oil, brush teeth and take a quick shower.
NOW I’m ready for a lovely cup of coffee!! During summer, I sit outside on the deck and admire the beautiful view, during winter I cuddle up on the couch. This is when I sit down and write my gratitude list. There’s no better way to start the day than focussing on what you’re grateful for-and seeing and feeling just how blessed you truly are.
And by now, I can’t wait for the girls to get up and see a happy mommy. When they wake up, they write their gratitude lists, and then we do some yoga together.
I usually make the girls a low carb breakfast, and I drink my ketones for the day. At this stage, I feel great; I have energy and looking forward to another amazing day.
But how do we stay happy throughout the day? Well, by being prepared for the day. I make lists every Sunday for the upcoming week (and the daily to-do-lists the evening before):
- my daily to-do-list
- important tasks & top 3 things to accomplish
- weekly routine (cleaning, schooling schedule, activities and appointments)
- meal plan for the week (this has helped me a lot!!)
- grocery list for the week
- room cleaning checklists
I have a stunning daily to-do-list, as well as a daily gratitude list template as a free gift for you to download!
Having a morning routine has definitely changed my life by making me a happier person, more patient mom and a more positive and energetic wife. And as a BONUS, I have some “me-time” every day!
